GM GOODWRENCH SERVICES

Your GM vehicle
carries a 3 year or 60 000 km
comprehensive limited warranty (Buick models carry a 4 year or 80 000 km
warranty).
GM expects that all owners
will perform basic
visual inspections of oil level, coolant level, windshield washer fluid
level and tire pressure at each fuel fill .
Maintenance intervals, checks, inspections,
replacement parts, and recommended fluids and lubricants changes as
outlined by your GM maintenance manual are necessary to keep your vehicle
in good working condition.
Any damage caused
by failure to follow scheduled
maintenance may not be covered by warranty.

Semi Annual Service Our GM recommended maintenance schedule could significantly reduce
your service visits.
Rather than setting out
expensive generic "must do" maintenance schedules like the competition, we
recommend just two dealership maintenance inspections a year plus regular
oil changes keeps your vehicle protected.
The GM Semi-Annual service allows our
factory trained technicians to inspect your vehicles systems and identify
any additional maintenance items you may need to complete to extend the
individual component life of your vehicle based on your driving habits.
Tire rotation, weatherstrip lubrication AND complete inspection of:
restraint system, throttle system, automatic/manual transmission/transaxle,
engine air cleaner filter, wiper blades, engine cooling system, brakes &
tires, steering & suspension.
At Larry Hudson Pontiac Buick, we offer a
special "Semi-Annual Service with Lube Oil and Filter" at a price lower than
the combined price.

Lube Oil and Filter
A regular oil change is important because dirty engine oil
and a clogged oil filter will decrease your engine's efficiency, and can
lead to engine damage requiring expensive repairs. Goodwrench Service
Technicians know the right oil is vital for the proper operation of the GM
Oil Life System.
Most GM vehicles are now equipped with the GM Oil Life
System (OLS) which monitors oil wear and indicates when an oil change is
required. The time and kilometres between necessary oil changes will vary
depending on your driving habits.
You should change your oil when indicated
by the OLS light on your instrument panel, or every 12 months (whichever
comes first). When the OLS light on your instrument panel lights up, change
your oil within the next 1000 Km. Vehicles not equipped with the GM OLS
should have a lube oil and filter every
5000km or 3 months.

Tire Inspection and Rotation
Tires are warranted under your GM Basic Warranty up to 3
years or 60 000 km for material and workmanship defect only. To support this
warranty, customers are expected to perform and record tire rotations every
8-10 000km and check for accurate tire pressure and unusual wear once a
month.
Tires can lose up to one pound of pressure per square
inch a month without notice. Keeping tires properly inflated also extends
tire life and reduces wear on other components. Reducing wear means
consuming fewer natural resources (and creating less waste) by extending
component life.
Normal tire wear or wear-out, road-hazard damage such
as punctures, cuts, snags and breaks resulting from pothole impact, curb
impact, or from other objects, are not covered. Also, damage from improper
inflation, spinning (as when stuck in mud or snow), tire chains, racing,
improper mounting or dismounting, misuse, negligence, alteration, vandalism,
or misapplication is not covered.

Brake Services
The friction brake components on your vehicle are warranted
on your vehicle under your GM basic warranty for material and workmanship
defect. Brake rotors are warranted to 60 000 and consideration will be given
for covering brake pads up to 39,000 km (24,000 mi) (excluding owner abuse,
excessive trailering, or the situations that would not be considered normal
use ) for material or workmanship defect.
Different vehicles and consumer
driving habits will wear components differently. Pads and rotors must be
adjusted to a matched position to ensure effective braking and minimize
wear. Recommendations for brake services to prevent premature wear will be
made as noticed on semi-annual services.

Air Filter Check/ Replace
The engine air cleaner filter prevents dust from entering
your engine and causing damage. A dirty filter can restrict air flow to the
engine.
GM recommends every 20, 000 km
or two years to replace your vehicles air filter and to check the air
filter at every semi-annual inspection for unusual restriction or debris.
|
|
|
Fuel Filter Replace
Traditionally, your vehicle's fuel filter, an inline sealed
steel filter which prevented any debris from entering the pump, was to be
changed every 40-50 000 km.
As systems change and fuel supplies are made
cleaner, more GM vehicles have fuel filters inside the tank itself and do
not require replacement unless the tank is serviced.
|
|
Cabin Air Filter Check/Replace
In response to customer desire for more "allergen free"
driving, GM has incorporated passenger compartment filters in many of the
newer models.
It is important for you to check or have these cabin air
filters checked once a year or every
25 000 km and replaced frequently to ensure effectiveness.
As these
filters are "hepa"designed, you will find that they trap many undesired
environmental pollutants and will restrict heating, cooling and general air
flow in the cabin if they are not clean.

Cooling System Service
GM was the first to use DEX-COOL™ long lasting, corrosion inhibiting engine
coolant as a standard production product.
For you, this means less hassle.
With proper recommended maintenance DEX-COOL™ requires changing just once every five years (or 240,000 km) instead
of every two years like regular ethylene glycol coolant.
* DEX-COOL™ contains
no phosphates, silicates or nitrates. It is recyclable, and its longer life
also means less impact on the environment in terms of disposal and the
consumption of non-renewable resources.
If your vehicle has DEX-COOL™,
Goodwrench Service technicians will only use DEX-COOL™. (*most 2003-2005
Vibe and Wave models still contain "green" ethylene glycol coolant.)

Transmission Service
Like engine oil, transmission/transaxle fluid and filters
become contaminated with use and require regular replacement to prevent wear
and damage to moving metal parts. This reduces the possibility of breakdowns
and expensive repairs.
Every 80 000
kilometers Goodwrench Service Technicians inspect your vehicle's
transmission for leaks. We replace the transmission fluid, gasket and
filter, and adjust the linkage (if necessary). We also road test your
vehicle both before and after service.

Spark Plug Replacement
All GM vehicles are equipped with
long lasting platinum-tipped spark plugs. They conduct electricity more
effectively than standard spark plugs for improved fuel economy and smoother
acceleration. They are also an integral part of GM engine technology that
has reduced harmful emissions by more than 90% since the 1970's.
Platinum-tipped spark plugs do not require checking unless drivability is an
issue and only need to be replaced
every 166,000 km*. Goodwrench Service technicians only use
platinum-tipped spark plugs and only replace plugs when they need replacing.
Your spark plug wires will be inspected at plug replacement and require
replacement only as recommended by contamination or wear.
